Julian Nagelsmann denies links to Bayern Munich job with RB Leipzig head coach tipped to replace Hansi Flick if he becomes Germany boss

Julian Nagelsmann has denied reports linking him to the Bayern Munich job.

The RB Leipzig head coach has been tipped to replace Hansi Flick at the Bundesliga giants, with reports claiming the current Bayern manager will get the Germany job.

The manager merry-go-round appears like it will be in full swing this summer in Germany.

Joachim Low will step down from his role as head coach of the national team after Germany’s final match of Euro 2020 having asked to end his contract early.

Flick was one of the names tipped to replace him after winning the treble with Bayern last season, but relations appear to be strained this season.

Their exit from the Champions League at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night may prove to be a deciding factor.

Germany legend Lothar Matthaus claimed that Flick will leave the club this summer to take over the national side.

“I already said two weeks ago that in my opinion, this is Hansi Flick’s last season,” he told Sky in Germany. “I’ve said that Hansi Flick is right at the top of the DFB [German Football Federation] list, and then nothing else for a long time. There’s an offer from the DFB, yes.

“So, they want Hansi Flick and I think – or rather, I’m convinced – that Hansi Flick will no longer be Bayern coach after this season.

“That means the last game against Augsburg at home will be Hansi Flick’s last game as head coach of Bayern.”

Matthaus then went on to tip Nagelsmann, who has previously been linked with jobs in the Premier League, to take over the Bundesliga giants.

“Munich have already chatted a bit with [Julian] Nagelsmann, including about financial matters,” he added.

“Before the start of this season, Flick said that the coach should have a vote on new signings, which I think is right. As a coach, what am I going to do with players who I perhaps don’t want?

“I think it’s got too much for Hansi, and then the offer, the opportunity is there to become Jogi Low’s successor.”

But Nagelsmann dismissed speculation linking him to the job… for the time being.

“There were no talks and there are no talks between me and Bayern Munich. Same for my agents,” the Leipzig head coach told a press conference.
