Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford broke Brighton hearts as they cancelled out Danny Welbeck’s strike to secure a 2-1 win for Manchester United.
However, the visitors may feel as though they could have had a penalty with the game level after Harry Maguire brought down Welbeck and managed to survive a VAR check.

The Seagulls looked like a side who had won two games on the bounce and started the game at Old Trafford confidently with Premier League relegation seemingly no longer a worry.
It was the visitors who in fact took the lead through former Red Devil Danny Welbeck as the England international drifted between Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof to score, despite Dean Henderson’s best efforts.
The United academy graduate kept David De Gea on the bench for the game after replacing the Spaniard before the international break and could do nothing to stop Welbeck powering home.
It was Rashford once again who proved to be United’s saviour, scoring his 86th goal for the club with a well-taken finish after good work from Bruno Fernandes. The goal moves him clear of David Beckham in United scoring charts, with just seven players ahead of him now.

Yet as the home side pushed for a winner, they left space at the back and Brighton felt as though they had capitalised on that when Maguire appeared to bring down Welbeck in the box with only Henderson to beat.
The inevitable VAR check concluded the world’s most centre-half had not committed a foul, despite protestations from the Brighton players.
And it proved to be crucial as Greenwood headed home the winner after a wayward volley fell into the path of the 19-year-old to nod past both Robert Sanchez and Ben White.
Brighton remain six points clear of Fulham and have a game in hand, while United strengthened their grip on second place and will now look towards their Europa League clash with Granada as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes to finally win a trophy.
