Mikel Arteta labelled ‘a fake Pep Guardiola’ as Arsenal fan calls for Gunners boss to be sacked and replaced by Arsene Wenger after Europa League defeat

More pressure has been piled on Mikel Arteta following Arsenal’s Europa League defeat to Villarreal.

The Gunners suffered a 2-1 loss to the Spanish outfit, now managed by Unai Emery, in the first leg of their semi-final tie.

The Premier League side can be thankful there’s only one goal in it as Dani Ceballos was sent off when they were 2-0 down, while Nicolas Pepe’s goal was controversial as it came from the penalty spot after Manu Trigueros was adjudged to have tripped Bukayo Saka in the box.

Arteta put out a strange team as there was no recognised striker in the starting XI, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli all on the bench.

And Arsenal fan Jugs has had enough, insisting Arteta’s time at the Emirates Stadium is up and would even take Arsene Wenger back at the club.

“I think Arteta is a fake Guardiola,” Jugs said on The Sports Bar. “Who plays a Europa League semi-final without a striker?

“Everyone’s going on about Martinelli and the club say they listen to the fans, they don’t care.

“It’s like a retirement club. Like everyone says, you go there to get a top wage, you get a good transfer fee out of it, a good wage no matter what you do. It’s crazy.”

On a potential Wenger return, Jugs said: “Before you wouldn’t have had him but now you listen to all the stuff that was going on with the finances behind the scenes and the way he was covering stuff you’d have him back in a way.

“But it all starts with the owners. If they aren’t willing to put cash into it… we’ve just lost the plot.

“Spurs are brave enough to sack managers. Look at where they are compared to us. It’s a joke.”

And on Arteta, Jugs added: “He has to go. I’m all for stability in jobs but these guys get paid good money, you’ve got to get results.

“I’ve given up on Arsenal now. After all these results you can’t take it seriously. Football has become like a pastime, not something you actually enjoy.”
