Noel Gallagher admitted he was fearing the worst when Gareth Bale entered the fray during Tottenham’s Carabao Cup final with Manchester City.
But the City superfan needn’t have worried as his beloved team held off the likes of Bale to secure a 1-0 win at Wembley.
Aymeric Laporte scored the winner late on in a match City were very much the dominant side throughout, but the now eight-time League Cup winners were given one or two scares.
And it was City’s inability to take their chances early on which left the former Oasis man thinking it was one of those days.
Gallagher told talkSPORT: “I thought Bale was going to come on and score a worldie because it was one of those games…
“If it was a boxing match it would’ve been stopped. They barely got into our half and it was just one of those days where they kept getting a foot in.
“But we’ve got a great set of defenders now and we just strangled them.”
With the Carabao Cup in the bag, City will now turn his attentions to the Champions League and Premier League.
Pep Guardiola’s men are expected to win the league as they hold a ten-point lead at the top of the table and they will be confirmed champions with two more wins.
However, Gallagher pointed out that it could happen sooner than that and in rather poetic circumstances.
It would involve Liverpool, who took their Premier League title off them last season, confirming it with a win at Manchester United next Sunday.
City would also be required to beat Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Gallagher cheering for Liverpool, can this season get any more weirder?!
