Ryan Giggs charged with three domestic violence offences

The former Manchester United footballer Ryan Giggs has been charged with three domestic violence offences after police were called to his home in Salford last year.

Giggs, 47, has been charged with one count of coercive and controlling behaviour between December 2017 and November 2020, Greater Manchester police (GMP) said.

He is also charged with causing actual bodily harm to a woman in her 30s and common assault of a woman in her 20s. The latter two charges relate to an incident on the evening of 1 November 2020.

Giggs has been bailed and is due to appear at Manchester and Salford magistrates court on 28 April.

In a statement, GMP said: “ Police were called at 10.05pm on Sunday 1 November 2020 to reports of a disturbance at an address in Worsley. A woman in her 30s was treated for injuries at the scene.”

Giggs is manager of the Wales national team and a co-owner of Salford City football club, along with the Neville brothers and other members of the so-called “class of 92”.
