Theo Walcott dreaming of FA Cup glory with Southampton as he says ‘We can beat anyone’ as he targets final against Chelsea

Theo Walcott believes there’s no reason why Southampton shouldn’t be dreaming about FA Cup glory this season.

The forward spoke exclusively to talkSPORT ahead of their semi-final clash against Leicester at Wembley on Sunday, which you can listen to LIVE on talkSPORT, kick-off 6:30pm.

Many would have Saints down as the weakest team left in the competition but Walcott has warned any doubters to write them off at their peril, insisting they can beat anyone on their day.

Speaking to Sam Matterface, he said: “It’s such a cliche, but we’ve got this very difficult game against Leicester. But why not [dream about winning]? We’ve not conceded a goal in the competition yet.

“We’re going to enjoy it and if we play to the ability we know we can, especially in the first half of the season, we can beat anyone. When we all work as a unit, we are not nice to play against.

“I didn’t think I’d be at an FA Cup semi-final again. It’s one of those where I feel like it could be a very special moment for me and the team.”

Beat Leicester and an FA Cup final date with Chelsea, who beat Manchester City in the semi-finals, awaits on May 15.

Southampton’s sole FA Cup triumph came in 1976, while they last made the final in 2003.

Walcott is determined to create more happy Cup memories for the St Mary’s faithful, adding that the fact fans will be at the semi has only motivated the team more.

He added: “It means so much. For a club like Southampton to be in the final and hopefully progress, it just shows the club’s trying to progress in the right direction.”

“It’s that extra incentive that you’ve got people there, and they just want to have a great day out and see a football match. They’ve not had it for so long and we’ve not had it either.

“Hopefully everyone can follow the rules and ensure this runs smoothly, because this is what we want. We want fans to be back now. It’s been too long.

“A lot of players I know are fed up now of just playing a game, because that’s how it feels at times, just another football match.

“That buzz of seeing all the fans at Wembley, that’s what it’s all about, that’s why we love it so much. When you see the smiles on the kids’ faces and when you’re taking selfies with them after the games, we’ve missed all of that.”
