Tottenham mocked by new sponsor Dulux moments after partnership was announced as paint company takes aim at empty trophy cabinet and jokes mascot could defend better

Even Tottenham’s own sponsors are piling in on them as Dulux posted a series of mocking tweets on Thursday.

Just moments after Spurs announced the company as their official paint supplier, Dulux began to mock the club’s empty trophy cabinet and leaky defence, even joking their dog mascot could do a better job.

In tweets which have since been deleted, presumably after leaving Tottenham rather red-faced, the brand responded to a fan who joked that Spurs’ trophy room could be used to store paint cans.

Dulux, seemingly in agreement, posted a picture of an empty glass cabinet with the Spurs crest on, with a caption claiming the ‘unused trophy cabinet’ was ‘for sale’.

Rival supporters quickly joined in the fun and another suggested the trophy cabinet needed painting due to dust, to which Dulux responded: “Don’t be silly, surfaces should be dust free before painting.”

Besides Tottenham’s failure to win a trophy over the last 13 years, dating back to their League Cup triumph over Chelsea in 2008, Dulux also took a swipe at the current stars.

They responded to suggestions that their iconic dog mascot could step into defence for Spurs by writing: “He might do a better job.”

Tottenham and Dulux are yet to comment on the tweets, which have surely ensured the worst possible start to their relationship.

It’s the last thing Spurs need right now, with their top-four hopes in tatters following a 3-1 defeat to Man United, and speculation linking Harry Kane with a summer transfer.

Tottenham do have a chance to hit back at the endless trophy gags later this month, though, when they face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
