Trevor Sinclair backs David Moyes to be named Manager of the Year but ex-West Ham star has concerns about Hammers boss’ future with contract up in the summer

What a season it’s shaping up to be for David Moyes, who’s in a great position to guide West Ham to an incredible top four finish.

The Hammers currently occupy the final Champions League spot in the Premier League table thanks to a 3-2 win at Wolves on Monday night.

The feeling at the London Stadium is understandably very positive and assistant boss Stuart Pearce believes Moyes been one of the best managers in the top-flight this season.

Pearce told talkSPORT: “Certainly I see him first hand and his knowledge of the game is outstanding and I’m not just saying that because I work with the fella.

“With what he’s got available squad wise he’s probably punching up there with the managerial big boys.

“Dave has had a wonderful season but let’s be honest we are fantastic at potentially writing managers off that have got incredible CVs.

“Dave’s managed near enough a thousand games so for the vast majority of his profession he’s been outstanding.”

Whether Moyes has been Manager of the Year isn’t even a debate, according to former West Ham player Trevor Sinclair.

Sinclair told talkSPORT: “He’s not in the conversation, it’s him alone. If West Ham finish in the top four, he is manager of the year full stop. It’s not even a question for me.”

Moyes has made it clear of his desire to stay at West Ham.

However, as things stand, his contract is due to expire in June, something that worries Sinclair.

He added: “I’m a bit concerned about a few things moving forward whether they make the top four or not.

“If they do make it then there’s going to be huge investment needed in the squad to be able to compete in the Champions League.

“That’s something West Ham fans fear and another thing they fear is that David Moyes‘ contract is up in the summer.

“David Moyes coming into West Ham is one thing, he appreciated the opportunity to manage this West Ham side for a second time. I think he did well enough in the first opportunity but he got sacked.

“There may be a little bit of ‘should I trust these people again because if things don’t go well they’ll sack me’… maybe there will be other bigger clubs looking at David Moyes thinking what a fantastic job he’s done.”
