Manchester City’s incredible era of success continued on Sunday as they won the Carabao Cup final against Tottenham.
Aymeric Laporte’s late header was the only goal of the game despite City’s dominance, and is the eighth League Cup triumph in the club’s history.
It also moves them above Aston Villa in the trophy table as it’s their 21st, while Chelsea our now in their sights having won 24.
There has been plenty of change in the table recently with Liverpool’s Premier League title win putting them ahead of Manchester United having amassed 43 trophies.
The rivalry between the Reds and the Red Devils goes back a long way as they battle to be the most decorated club in England.
Jurgen Klopp’s men ended their 30-year hoodoo to be crowned Premier League champions last season but they won’t win anything this season, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side could claim the Europa League.
That trophy success would mean United could claim to being the joint-most trophy-laden club in English football.
Below you can see the most successful teams, with at least one league title in English history to their name, ranked by the major honours they have claimed.
* Teams only included in ranking if they have won at least one league title. Major honours counted as season-long competitions (Charity/Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup not included), and no one-off competitions tallied towards total. European trophies include: European Cup/Champions League, Cup Winners’ Cup, UEFA Cup/Europa League and Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. Only top flight league titles are counted as major honours.
