Anthony Joshua’s blockbuster heavyweight showdown with Tyson Fury could be officially announced TONIGHT, following Billy Joe Saunders’ fight with Canelo Alvarez, talkSPORT has been told.
The Gypsy Kings’ US co-promoter Bob Arum has expressed serious doubts over the Saudi Arabia site deal, but Eddie Hearn recently confirmed that the fight was all but finalised.
And speaking on Weekend Sports Breakfast, Britain’s former European bantamweight champion Spencer Oliver revealed he expects an announcement after the huge fight between Saunders and Canelo on Saturday night.
“I think we’re going to get an announcement after the fight tonight… AJ vs Tyson Fury,” Oliver said.
“I think Eddie is going to announce it tonight, and I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be mid-August… August 14 is the date I’ve been hearing.
“So I think we’ll get that announcement tonight. Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, the contract has been signed, the only thing we don’t know is the date.
“Because time’s really ticking on now and Eddie was very vocal about it in the week, that by Saturday I have to make an announcement.
“It would be the right platform to announce that sort of fight.”
talkSPORT revealed earlier this week that Saturday August 14 was the frontrunner for the fight while all relevant parties finalised the paperwork.
