David Moyes admits Jesse Lingard transfer ‘may not be realistic’ as Manchester United could use West Ham loanee as part of Jadon Sancho deal

David Moyes hopes Jesse Lingard will be a West Ham player next season, but admitted that might not be realistic.

Lingard has excelled with the Hammers on loan from Manchester United with nine goals and three assists in 13 Premier League appearances.

The 28-year-old has even regained his place in the England squad and won the Premier League player of the month award for April.

Lingard will return to United at the end of the season, with his value having soared following his good spell in London.

West Ham are keen on signing him on a permanent deal, but some reports suggest the fee could be in the region of £40million.

Lingard has been surplus to requirements at United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the move away has helped him find form.

Hammers boss Moyes hopes that can continue with the club next season.

“It is fully deserved, his performances have been really good,” said Hammers boss Moyes on Lingard’s award. “He has excelled and probably done better than we hoped when we first brought him in.

“But you must not forget Jesse has joined a good team and a team that was playing well and near the top of the league. So hopefully we have helped Jesse as well.

“I am not actually sure how realistic it is. Obviously, I think Jesse has enjoyed himself, I hope he has… we have enjoyed having him and he is Manchester United’s player so they can decide what to do with him – and if they want to let him go then let’s hope he would consider us as one of his options.”

The interest in Lingard is expected to increase this summer with West Ham facing a battle with numerous other clubs for his signature.

The Sun claim United may use him as part of a deal to finally bring Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford.

Borussia Dortmund are said to be keeping tabs on him and are big admirers.

The Red Devils came close to signing him last summer, with the fee the only sticking point.

The German club are believed to want around £100million this summer, but offering up Lingard as part of the deal will likely reduce that figure.
