If Harry Kane fancies a transfer across London to Chelsea, the Tottenham striker may well have to think again.
The Blues are one of the three Premier League sides, along with Man City and Manchester United, who are said to have expressed an interest in signing the England captain.
But getting business done between the two clubs is going to be far from easy.
We all know the duo are rivals on the pitch, while off-pitch antics, like when Chelsea snatched Willian from under Spurs’ nose back in 2013, have not helped.
As well as the fall out over Willian’s transfer, Chelsea wanted to buy Luka Modric from Spurs in 2011, but were turned down, while in a 2016 game tensions spilled out onto the pitch in the so-called ‘Battle of Stamford Bridge’ when Spurs were vying for the title in 2016.
And former Blues star Carlton Cole has revealed owner Roman Abramovich had an incredible reaction at the mere thought of dealing with Tottenham long before Kane was hitting the back of the net.
Cole went for a medical at Spurs in hope of making a transfer to north London in 2006 but was then summoned into a meeting with the Russian billionaire.
Explaining his meeting with Abramovich, Cole, who came through the ranks at Chelsea, told The Sports Bar on talkSPORT: “I was leaving Chelsea and I was supposed to go to Spurs.
“I went and had my medical and something happened with the deal.
“Roman Abramovich heard the whisper I was going over there. So I got called back by Chelsea and I had to have a meeting with Roman.
“He had his interpreter next to him and his other adviser and I had my dad and my uncle with me.
“He said, ‘we don’t do business with Spurs, choose another club’.
“He wanted to give me another deal, but for that to happen I would have had to go to Russia and play for his other club over there [CSKA Moscow].
“I remember being at the Tottenham training ground and holding their shirt. It was a close one, but I made the right decision in the end.”
Carlo Cudicini is the only Chelsea player to have joined Tottenham during the Abramovich era.
The goalkeeper, who was playing second fiddle to Petr Cech at the time, was allowed to leave on a free transfer in January 2009.
