Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson SCORES last-minute winner vs West Brom to keep pressure on Chelsea and Leicester in top four race

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson scored an injury-time winning goal to rescue his side’s Champions League hopes in a 2-1 victory over West Brom on Sunday.

The Reds’ unlikely hero rose highest from a Trent Alexander-Arnold corner to head past Sam Johnstone in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time.

It has been a difficult season for Alisson, whose father died earlier this year, but he did him proud with a crucial goal at the Hawthorns.

Liverpool fell behind to Hal Robson-Kanu, who was making his first Premier League start of the season, when the Welshman fired past Alisson in the 15th minute.

Mohamed Salah equalised for Liverpool just after the half-hour mark with his 22nd goal of the campaign, putting him joint-first in the Golden Boot race with Harry Kane.

And just when it looked like the Reds would be held to a disappointing draw, Alisson secured the vital three points in dramatic fashion.

Now, Jurgen Klopp’s men are just one point below fourth-placed Chelsea with two games to go.

Liverpool got off to the worst possible start when Robson-Kanu was given time and space to score his first Premier League goal in four years.

Salah expertly slotted home from the edge of the box after Sadio Mane had won back possession as the two sides went in level at half-time.

There was slight controversy surrounding the equaliser as Mike Dean awarded Liverpool a free-kick when Fabinho bumped into him.

The rules state play should only be restarted if the referee touches the ball.

West Brom thought they had taken the lead for the second time in the 71st minute when Kyle Bartley headed in from a corner.

However, Matt Phillips was adjudged to be obstructing Alisson’s view in an offside position.

Alisson did well to deny Robson-Kanu a brace by denying him in a one-on-one situation.

Liverpool then had a flurry of chances to win the game in the latter stages.

Alexander-Arnold blasted over from close-range, before Georginio Wijnaldum did the same following Salah’s lay-off.

But they were not made to pay for their wastefulness thanks to Alisson’s heroics.
