Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been ‘personally researching’ character of summer transfer target Yves Bissouma who could be successor to Georginio Wijnaldum

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been looking at transfer target Yves Bissouma’s character off the pitch as they consider a summer bid.

The Brighton midfield ace has impressed this campaign, despite being involved in a relegation battle.

Bissouma’s all-action box-to-box displays have seen numerous top Premier League clubs consider a transfer, with Arsenal and Manchester City also keen on his services.

Liverpool’s interest in the player is a little further down the line, according to the Sunday Times, though.

They report German gaffer Klopp has been ‘personally researching’ his character and off-field behaviour to find out if he will fit into his current squad.

If he does decide the player is the right man and a successor to Georginio Wijnaldum, who looks set to leave the club on a free transfer, then a £40million bid will be needed to prise him away from The Seagulls.

Liverpool legend John Barnes is one man who would clearly be in favour of them signing the Brighton ace.

He told BonusCodeBets: “Yves Bissouma has the ability to play at a team like Liverpool. He could fill what Jurgen Klopp wants from the three midfield players.

“He is strong defensively, he works hard, he plays the ball quickly and every now and then when he needs to dribble, as much as we don’t speak about Brighton, you know he can do it, because he has [in the past].

“Of all the players playing in England, that could fit the template of Liverpool’s midfield three, he is one of them.

“He [plays] like Georginio Wijnaldum, although he doesn’t attack as much as ‘Gini’ [Wijnaldum], because Brighton play a different style of football, when Bissouma wants to he can. He is 24 and young, he would be a great fit.”
