Man City told they can sign Lionel Messi if they pay Barcelona superstar £500k-a-week AFTER TAX as report claims player is ‘open to a year contract’ away from Camp Nou

Lionel Messi could reportedly still make his way to Manchester City this summer – but only if the Premier League champions pay him £500k-a-week AFTER TAX.

The Argentine superstar’s contract is up at the end of the season and his father has reportedly started contract manoeuvres.

The Sun report he is ‘open to the idea’ of a one-year contract with the option of a further year, if a suitor is willing to stump up £25million-a-year.

The news comes, however, after strong indications that Messi was set to prolong his 17-year stay at Camp Nou.

Various sources have suggested that Barcelona’s new president Joan Laporta has convinced Messi to stay at the club that he has spent his entire career with.

Manchester City, who are one of only two clubs tipped to be able to afford such a sum along with Paris Saint-Germain, have been told they would have to make Messi the highest paid player in Premier League history to lure him to the Etihad.

The report adds that ‘feelers have been put out’ to Chelsea and Manchester United, but they are said to have shown little interest.

Messi has enjoyed another stunning season for the Spanish giants despite being in the tail end of his career, scoring 37 goals in 46 games across all competitions.

Laporta, though, is said to be going ‘all out’ to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, it may be a case of letting the superstar leave to make room for the next.

The Express claims the LaLiga giants could ship out Messi along with Samuel Umtiti, Philippe Coutinho, Martin Braithwaite and Ousmane Dembele to stump up the money for Haaland.
