Sir Alex Ferguson was spotted arriving at Paris Saint-Germain’s team hotel on the morning of their crunch clash against Manchester City on Tuesday evening.
The legendary former Manchester United manager is close friends with PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino, whose side are seeking to overturn a 2-1 first leg defeat to reach their second consecutive final.
The French giants are seemingly pulling out all the stops to try and gain an advantage at the Etihad as they sought advice from one of the greatest managers in the history of the sport, who will no doubt be keen to see the Man City domination brought to an end.
PSG are staying at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester, which is used by United before home games at Old Trafford, and it’s possible Ferguson would have been invited by Pochettino to offer some words of encouragement as they look to progress to their second consecutive Champions League final.
Poch is a big admirer of Fergie and he spoke of his admiration for the Scot in his book following a lunch meeting the pair enjoyed in 2016.
The former Spurs boss said: “It was fantastic. It was the dream come true.
“When I was young starting my career as a manager he was my inspiration. And when you can share two hours with the person who is the greatest manager in the world of all time you must enjoy it.
“I wanted time to stop, but of course that is impossible.”
Ferguson is also said to be friends with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the pair both voiced their concerns over the recent European Super League plans which collapsed spectacularly last month.
City have never made it past the last four stage and are aiming to reach the promised land as well as do one better than rivals United in terms of successive games won in the competition.
PSG were denied glory by Bayern Munich in 2020 and Poch’s men are sweating over the fitness of superstar Kylian Mbappe, who has travelled with his teammates to Manchester despite concerns over a calf injury.
The Frenchman was absent for the weekend’s game against Lens and Pochettino will give Mbappe until the final moment to prove his fitness to play at the Etihad.
