Manchester United are keeping an eye on Cristiano Ronaldo’s situation with reports suggesting the Juventus superstar could quit the club if his side fail to qualify for the Champions League.
The 36-year-old, who has scored 101 goals in 133 appearances for the Italian giants since moving from Real Madrid in 2018, has long been linked with a return to Old Trafford since leaving the Premier League club in 2009.
Juventus are currently fifth in Serie A with one game left to try and finish in the top four and qualify for next season’s Champions League.
The Athletic report that ‘agents connected to Juventus insist Cristiano Ronaldo could genuinely leave Italy this summer, in a situation that staff at Old Trafford are monitoring’.
Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for United before sealing his dream move to Real Madrid.
Earlier this month, trusted transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano told talkSPORT that no Champions League would spell the end of his Juventus career.
“If Juventus will be out of the Champions League the feeling here in Italy is that Cristiano will ask to leave,” Romano said.
“Let’s see what club can sign Cristiano this summer. Remember he has an incredible salary here at Juventus for one more season for £30million.
“This something really huge for Cristiano right now, and it’s really difficult in this financial situation to find a club prepared to pay him the same salary.
“The bottom line is he wants to play in the Champions League and Juventus still have three game left to get there – but it’s difficult for Juventus at the moment.”
