Declan Rice made a dig at Mason Mount’s doubters as the midfielder scored to help Chelsea reach the Champions League final on Wednesday night.
The 22-year-old scored the Blues’ second against Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge to make it 3-1 on aggregate and set-up an all-English final against Man City.
West Ham midfielder Rice is best friends with Mount having played at Chelsea’s academy together and has always backed him.
After the game, in a now deleted tweet, Rice said: “Mason Mount doubters now biting their tongue.”
He also said: “MM. What a journey.”
The England international has been a star figure for Chelsea over the last two seasons, showing up for his club when they most needed him.
He’s been with the London club since the age of six and will now play in an FA Cup and Champions League final.
talkSPORT host, and former Spurs defender, Jamie O’Hara wrote on Twitter: “100s of millions spent on trying to get world class stars and the two best players in the champions league semi finals have come through the academy for nothing.”
O’Hara is referring to Mount and Phil Foden who are two of England’s best young talents and will meet in the Champions League final.
Foden has one of Pep Guardiola’s most trusted players as the club look to win their first Champions League, having beaten Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final.
The signs are looking good for England this summer with both youngsters in contention to feature in Gareth Southgate’s starting XI for Euro 2020.
It’s coming home this summer… right?
