Rangers fans turn River Clyde red before Scottish Premiership trophy lift as supporters ’cause nationwide flare shortage’ with party plans

Rangers fans were quite literally painting the town red ahead of their Scottish Premiership trophy lift on Saturday.

The dominant champions will get their hands on the trophy for the first time in a decade after they host Aberdeen at Ibrox on the final day of the season this afternoon.

And the celebrations are already under way as more than a hundred Gers supporters lined both banks of the River Clyde with red flares on Friday night.

It created an amazing spectacle, seen across the city, and fans could be heard chanting ‘Campeones’.

Although the scenes may increase concern over party plans amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gatherings of more than six people are prohibited in Glasgow and fans have been warned against marching from from Ibrox to George Square by politicians and police.

The club themselves have also asked their supporters to celebrate ‘in their community’.

However, it seems unlikely fans will listen after buying enough pyrotechnics to cause a nationwide shortage and many have already gathered on Saturday morning.

The Scottish Sun reports that blue flares are sold out across the UK after being snapped up by Rangers fans, much to the annoyance of Man City supports, who are planning their own celebrations at the end of the campaign.
