Antonio Conte should be at the top of Tottenham’s managerial wish list.
That is according to Adrian Durham, who believes Spurs should be aiming higher than Graham Potter, Eddie Howe and Scott Parker – three managers who have been linked with succeeding Jose Mourinho in north London.
Conte, who won the Premier League title with Chelsea, led Inter Milan to a first Serie A triumph in 11 years on Sunday.
And Durham is adamant Harry Kane will be ‘out of the door like a shot’ if Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy does not appoint an elite manager.
Durham told talkSPORT: “I call him Graham Plodder which is a little bit disrespectful.
“He is better than that, but there is a pedestrian way that Brighton play that some people seem to love.
“I look at the lack of goals and think it’s got to get better than that. Potter, Parker or Eddie Howe – and then I look at Antonio Conte, who’s just won the title at Inter Milan.
“That’s who Spurs should be trying to attract to their football club. If they go with any of the first three, with the greatest of respect to them, there’s no way Kane stays.
“Imagine that conversation, Daniel Levy saying to Harry Kane, ‘listen, I know you’ve talked possibly about going, but I’m going to persuade you to stay because Eddie Howe is coming to manage this club’.
“Harry Kane would be out of the door like a shot.”
Kane has scored 220 goals in 332 appearances for Tottenham, but is yet to win a trophy for his beloved club.
And the England captain could leave Spurs this summer if they do not qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Ryan Mason’s side are five points below fourth-placed Chelsea with four games remaining.
