England captain Harry Kane is ‘fully focussed’ at Euro 2020 and a great example to follow, insists Phil Foden, who claims midfielders didn’t create enough for their captain against Scotland

England wonderkid Phil Foden has insisted Harry Kane is fully focussed in training and a great example to his teammates.

The striker has taken criticism for his performances at Euro 2020 so far with no goals against Croatia or Scotland.

In the last match, a 0-0 draw with the Scots, he touched the ball just 19 times and completed only seven passes before being substituted 16 minutes from time.

Many pundits wondered if Kane lacked focus given his possible summer transfer away from Tottenham, while others felt he didn’t look fit.

But 21-year-old Man City ace Foden has insisted his captain has been nothing but exemplary behind the scenes at the tournament.

He told talkSPORT: “I see him 100 per cent focussed every day in training, wanting to get better.

“He’s always the first in the gym so he’s a great example to every other player.”

And Foden says the blame for Kane’s lack of goals doesn’t lie solely at his teammate’s feet.

He added: “It’s always difficult to break a team down that plays five at the back but the talent that we have on the pitch we should find a way to break it down and we didn’t it was just one of those games.

“We can’t dwell on it too much, we just need to focus on the next game.

“I just believe we didn’t find the solutions to attack right, for whatever reason that was. We didn’t create enough.

“I’ve seen a few comments blaming Harry and things but we didn’t create enough for him to even have a chance.

“It’s something to work on and hopefully we can keep getting better.”

Boos were loud from Three Lions fans at Wembley, both at half-time and full-time but the Manchester City starlet has stated supporters are entitled to their opinion on the performance, although he admitted he couldn’t make out the jeers.

“I didn’t really hear that to be honest,” Foden said. “I don’t know if I was just focussed on my own thing but I didn’t really hear the booing.

“If that was the case, they have their own opinion and that’s what they’re going to do.

“It’s four points and we haven’t lost so it’s positive. If we win the last game, everyone will forget about Scotland. It wasn’t such a bad result.”
