Nuno’s camp are anticipating a formal, written contract offer to arrive in the next 48 hours, with the 47-year-old in pole position to become Everton’s new boss.
Santo was on the verge of a move to Crystal Palace before being alerted to Everton’s interest.
It’s understood that the Toffees have assessed a number of candidates following Ancelotti’s shock return to Real Madrid last week, including former manager David Moyes.
The Scot, however, recently put pen-to-paper on a three-year contract extension at West Ham, paving the way for Nuno to join the Merseyside outfit.
A potential stumbling block is the influence of Nuno’s agent, Jorge Mendes, who had a major role behind the scenes at Molineux.
Santo would be Everton’s sixth permanent manager in the past five years.
