Dean Saunders insists Wales have overachieved at Euro 2020, despite their last 16 exit at the hands of Denmark.
The Dragons suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat against Kasper Hjulmand’s men on Saturday as they failed to emulate their successful Euro 2016 run to the semi-finals.

Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey did not impact the match with Kasper Dolberg (2), Joakim Maehle and Martin Braithwaite inflicting Wales’ heaviest-ever European Championship loss.
Despite the disappointing exit, Saunders, who played 75 times for Wales, is adamant Euro 2020 has been a success for Rob Page’s men.
He told talkSPORT: “Nobody expected us to get out of the group. The nation is proud of the team, no matter what, we got out of the group.
“Danny Ward has been great, Chris Mepham and Joe Rodon have had a good tournament, Ben Davies has done well, Bale and Ramsey were brilliant against Turkey, Dan James has improved, Kieffer Moore might end up in the Premier League because of this.
“Also, Joe Allen has had his achilles snapped, he’s back playing how he used to play. Little Joe Morrell, who is in Luton’s reserves, he stood up for himself and played well.

“We got some good results early on, we didn’t have to beat Italy to get through, so you’ve got to say, ‘well done’.
“Jonathan Ford, the chief executive, has gone, we’ve lost a manager [Ryan Giggs], Robert Page steps in, we’ve got barely any fans in the grounds, the players and staff are travelling all over the place.
“Things were stacked against us, so you’ve got to be proud of what they’ve done. We can pick holes and say, ‘this was wrong, that was wrong’.
“Considering we’ve got 15 players who are not playing at the highest level, we’ve done great to get out of the group stages, so well done to all of them.”
