Gareth Bale stormed out of a post-match interview after being quizzed about his international future as Wales were thumped 4-0 by Denmark in the last 16 of Euro 2020.
Kasper Dolberg’s double and late efforts from Joakim Maehle and Martin Braithwaite put the seal on an excellent Denmark display as Wales struggled to make their mark on proceedings in Amsterdam.
Wales skipper Bale admitted that it was a bad day at the office for Wales, who reached the last four of Euro 2016.
“It was not how we wanted the game to go,” Bale told the BBC.
“We started very well for the first 25 minutes, but conceded a goal and the game changed a little bit.
“We came out second half trying to play and unfortunately made a mistake to concede the (second) goal which I guess killed the momentum on our side.
“Obviously to finish the game how we did is disappointing.
“The boys are frustrated and angry, it is understandable, and I would rather us go out like that, kicking and screaming than laying off and doing nothing.”
And his mood changed sour after the BBC touchline reporter conducting the interview tried to end proceedings by questioning Bale about his future.
“I know you were asked yesterday if this was going to be your last game for Wales you said you wanted another one…”
Bale, who previously said he couldn’t reveal what his next career step was as it would ’cause chaos’, duly stormed off in anger.
In a later interview, he promised never to quit on Wales as long as he’s playing football.
“I want to continue to play,” Bale told S4C shortly after terminating a previous interview when asked about his international future.
“People ask stupid questions all the time but I obviously love playing for Wales.
“I will play for Wales until the day that I stop playing football.”
Wales have started their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign and the finals in Qatar are only 17 months away.
Bale is four appearances short of becoming only the second Welshman to win 100 caps.
