Gary Lineker was brilliantly mocked by Micah Richards as he responded to Alexander Isak admitting he didn’t know a huge amount about him.
The 21-year-old forward was at the heart of all the action as Sweden beat Slovakia 1-0 on Friday and plenty of praise was heaped on him as a result.
It was his through ball for Robin Quaison that won the penalty, which was converted by Emil Forsberg.
He was named the man-of-the-match for the game and nearly scored the goal of the tournament, taking on five players before having his shot saved by Martin Dubravka.
During the game, Lineker tweeted: “Don’t think there’s much doubt that Alexander Isak will attract a lot of attention from clubs across Europe. Exceptional talent.”
And Isak was then asked about this at his post-match press conference.
A reporter said: “Gary Lineker wrote about you, he said you were an excellent talent. Do you know who Gary Lineker is?”
Isak hesitantly answered: “I am aware of him. Is he an old player working in the studio?”
The reporter added: “He was the top goalscorer at the World Cup in 1986.”
To which Isak responded: “Well I wasn’t born then, but I have a little bit of knowledge about him.”
Richards wasn’t going to miss this opportunity when they next returned to the studio and set up the video just five minutes into their coverage on Saturday night.
Richards began: “Isak, he’s been talking about you, hasn’t he Gary? Cue the VT.”
The press conference clip was then played.
Lineker responded: “I said really nice things about him! An ‘old player in the studio’?”
Richards burst into laughter and added: “He wasn’t born then, he said.”
“How does it feel when no-one knows you? Now you know how I feel!”
