Lee Carsley is set to be appointed as the next manager of England Under-21s, talkSPORT understands.
Aidy Boothroyd left the role in April after seven years with the Football Association.
Initially working with the Under-20s, he was appointed as Under-21s boss after Gareth Southgate was made men’s senior team boss in 2016.
Boothroyd guided England to three successive Under-21 Euro tournaments, including a semi-final spot in 2017. England won the Toulon Tournament in 2018.
But his contract was not renewed following a disappointing European Championship earlier this year, where they failed to get out of the group stage.
Several names had been linked to the role of coaching the next bright stars in the England set-up, including Frank Lampard, Sol Campbell and Joe Cole.
Trevor Sinclair also threw his hat into the ring on talkSPORT.
But it is former Everton midfielder Carsley who is set to land the job, stepping up from his current role with the Under-20s.
The 47-year-old has held coaching roles with Coventry, Sheffield United, Brentford and Man City.
He has been in the England set-up since 2015, holding various roles in the age-group sides.
