Phil Foden reveals the England squad have agreed to copy his blond haircut – if they win Euro 2020 – as he names Chelsea legend Frank Lampard and Arsenal icon Jack Wilshere as his heroes

Phil Foden has revealed his England teammates have promised to replicate the Romania squad of 1998 by dyeing their hair blond like him – if they win Euro 2020!

The Manchester City midfielder needn’t have donned the peroxide ‘do in order to gain international acclaim after his sensational season under Pep Guardiola.

However, members of the media and fans could not help but make comparisons with Paul Gascoigne as the 21-year-old arrived at St George’s Park before Euro 2020 with his eye-catching new Barnet.

Foden is a mercurial talent, much like hero of Euro ’96 Gazza, who will always attract attention for his antics on the pitch.

Speaking to talkSPORT before a crucial Group D game with the Czech Republic on Tuesday, Foden revealed his teammates may also get some extra attention if they can become the first England side to win a major tournament since 1966 by collectively dyeing their hair blond, with the all-important skin fade of course.

He said: “You know what I said; if we win it, I told the team they had to get the same haircut as me!

“They all agreed so hopefully, if we win it, you will see everyone with the same haircut.

“I think Romania did it didn’t they where they all had the same haircut so if we won it, I would make everyone get the same haircut.”

Foden has earned comparisons to some of the best English midfielders in history due to his exceptional technical ability and natural goal scoring touch.

When asked who inspired him growing up, the Man City midfielder was unequivocal in his response.

“I enjoyed obviously Jack Wilshere, at the time,” he added.

“I love Frank Lampard and how he arrived and he scored, he was always in the right place at the right time.

“I enjoyed so many players and it is hard to name just one.”
