West Ham trio Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal handed masks to avoid Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell and Billy Gilmour mistake as England beat Czech Republic

West Ham stars Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal were taking no chances as they wore masks while talking after England’s 1-0 win over Czech Republic.

The Three Lions topped Group D at Euro 2020 thanks to Raheem Sterling’s winner on Tuesday and will now play France, Germany, Portugal or Hungary in the last 16 next week.

Gareth Southgate’s men had to play without Chelsea duo Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount after they came into close contact with Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmour, who tested positive for coronavirus on Monday.

Chilwell and Mount talked to Gilmour for around 20 minutes following England’s goalless draw with Scotland last week.

And as a result of Gilmour’s positive test, Chilwell and Mount are now self-isolating for 10 days and are doubts for their country’s last-16 clash.

Three Lions boss Southgate revealed before kick-off that the trio had been talking for 120 seconds too long, meaning it knocked them out of action.

England ace Rice and Czech stars Soucek and Coufal, who all excelled for West Ham last season, ensured the same mistake was not made as they took the masks that were made available to them while having a catch-up at full-time.

talkSPORT pundit and West Ham first-team coach joked he would be on the Wembley surface to break the trio up if they continued chatting for more than 15 minutes to avoid a repeat of what happened on Friday.

He said: “I’ve got my stopwatch on them, don’t worry.

“If they get to 15 minutes I’m on that pitch and separating them!”

Rice has started all three of England’s group games at Euro 2020 and was replaced by Jordan Henderson at half-time against the Czech Republic.

The 22-year-old is likely to start his fourth successive match at the tournament when the Three Lions play their last 16 opponent.
