Wales boss Ryan Giggs has not held talks with Zinedine Zidane over Gareth Bale’s Real Madrid exile

Wales boss Ryan Giggs says he has not spoken to Zinedine Zidane over Gareth Bale’s situation at Real Madrid.

The 31-year-old is being frozen out at the Bernabeu and played only 100 minutes of football in the club’s final 12 games of the 2019/20 season.

Despite his lack of first-team action, Bale is included in Wales’ squad for their Nations League double-header against Finland and Bulgaria this month.

And Giggs has not held talks with Real Madrid manager Zidane about Bale due to a language barrier.

He said: “I haven’t spoken to Zidane.

“My French and Spanish isn’t too good. That’s my way out of that one.

“I know Zidane’s English isn’t very good from experience.”

While being an unused in a 2-0 win over Alaves last month, Bale was seen using his face mask as a blindfold.

He also cut a subdued figure when Real Madrid beat Barcelona to the LaLiga title.

Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, insists the forward, who has two years left on his £600,000-a-week deal, is going nowhere.

And if his Real Madrid exile continues, it could put Bale’s national team place at threat for Euro 2020 next summer.

Last week, Giggs said: “There is no special treatment for anyone. I will look at each case individually.

“It is always something, a player not playing or a late injury. I need to adapt.

“If it becomes a problem in six months we will have to see. I can’t see it being a problem for these games.

“He is a good professional and always keeps himself fit. I speak to him when he is on camp. He was available for me for every game in the qualifiers. It’s never been a problem so far.

“Is it a worry for me? No. That might change, we will have to see in the future.”
