Man City dubbed ‘a shambles’ and ‘embarrassing’ after Leicester thrashing as Micah Richards takes aim at Rodri

Micah Richards has labelled Man City ‘a shambles’ and ’embarrassing’ after their 5-2 defeat to Leicester on Sunday.

The Citizens conceded three needless penalties as Jamie Vardy scored a hat-trick in a shock result.

Pep Guardiola has signed Nathan Ake for £41million and is expected to bring in £50m-rated Ruben Dias from Benfica this week.

However, Richards, who won a Premier League title during his 10-year spell at the Etihad, believes City’s problems lie in midfield and took aim at Rodri.

He told Sky Sports: “I’m not blaming it [the defeat] just on Rodri, there were loads of bad performances in there.

“But in the middle by himself, the way he turns, he doesn’t read danger, like Fernandinho [does], and the backline gets exposed.

“It happened time and time and time again. I don’t know how many times it can happen to City before they rectify it.

“Everyone talks about their defence, it was a shambles.

“To concede five goals at home, it really is embarrassing. It’s more to it than that, they are too easy to play against, they’re weak.”

The heavy loss also marked the first time Guardiola has conceded five goals as a manager.

Riyad Mahrez gave City an early lead, but Leicester were level just before the break when Kyle Walker fouled Vardy in the box as the striker converted from the spot.

Vardy put the Foxes in front in the 54th-minute with an audacious flick from close-range, before completing his hat-trick thanks to another penalty shortly afterwards.

It was 4-1 when substitute James Maddison curled a superb shot past Ederson as Nathan Ake then netted a consolation goal.

The embarrassment did not stop there for City, though, as Youri Tielemans converted Leicester’s third penalty with two minutes to go.
