Arsene Wenger has sensationally claimed he was offered the chance to manage Manchester United – but refused to say exactly when.
The Frenchman is best known for his work at Arsenal, where he was manager for 22 years.
He won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups at Arsenal but has been out of work since he left his post in 2018.
However, he’s had no shortage of glamorous offers throughout his career, including from rival clubs such as the Red Devils.
“I was offered that job a few times,” he told The Times of the Paris Saint-Germain post.
Wenger also said he received offers from Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus as well as the French national team.
And when asked if he was offered the Manchester United job, he replied: “Yes.”
Asked when, he smiled: “I don’t tell you that. But I can tell you Man United offered me the job. I don’t tell you that [when].”
The Gunners legend had a huge rivalry with fellow managerial great Sir Alex Ferguson when Arsenal and Manchester United were the top two clubs in England.
However, Wenger revealed his relationship with Fergie is more harmonious these days and the two are now close.
He added: “These people are all very busy. I’m not close enough to them… except Ferguson, yes.
“I have Ferguson’s number, yes. We have a lot of respect for each other now.
“We had a period when it was very tough, very hot. After you’re not competing any more, everyone becomes a bit more objective.”
