Barcelona poked fun at Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo by suggesting that supporters got to watch the real ‘GOAT’ in action on Wednesday night: Lionel Messi.
Football fans all over the world were left bitterly disappointed after Juve’s talisman Cristiano Ronaldo was ruled out of the clash after testing positive for coronavirus.
Supporters were desperate to see Messi and Ronaldo go head to head once again to reignite what has become arguably football’s greatest rivalry.
But it was not to be, and the LaLiga side certainly riled up a few Juve fans following their 2-0 victory.
Barcelona tweeted: “We are glad you were able to see the real goat (emoji) on your pitch, @juventusfcen!”
Messi did disappoint in the match. The Argentina ace set up Ousmane Dembele for Barca’s first within 14 minutes before sealing the victory for his side with a stoppage time penalty.
Juventus, however, could count themselves hugely unlucky in the clash as Alvaro Morata bizarrely scored an unprecedented hat-trick of offside goals.
After the game, Italy icon Christian Vieri summed up what most of us were feeling in regards to Messi.
“Lionel Messi is the Harry Potter of football,” he said. “When he stops playing I will throw my TV away.”
