Pep Guardiola heaped praise on Leeds United following a thrilling draw with his Man City side.
An end-to-end match at Elland Road lived up to its high-billing of a heavyweight showdown between Guardiola and Marcelo Bielsa.
The pair have a lot of mutual respect for each other and showed it after the final whistle as they appeared to exchange a few kind words.
Leeds have adapted quickly to life in the Premier League and Guardiola was not surprised with how they played.
When asked if he expected them to play so well, he told talkSPORT: “We knew it. They destroyed the Championship last season. They have done really well.
“They were able to score three goals in Anfield and had more chances. It’s a good team and creates chances everywhere. We created too and we didn’t concede much.”
City started the game the better of the two sides and took the lead through Raheem Sterling but Guardiola felt his side should have been further ahead.
He said: “In the first half an hour, we should have scored three or four goals. It was a fantastic football game and we had our moments in the first half. They had their moments and at the end they were there.”
Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa has high expectations of his team and was not entirely happy with everything he saw from his side.
He told talkSPORT: “It was a very difficult game for us. It was difficult for us to be on even terms with them.
“In the first half an hour, we had a good influence on the game. After that the pace of the game and rhythm of the game hindered us.
“We have played better and worse. We are looking to be more stable throughout the game. That’s what we are looking for.”
