Said Benrahma to leave Brentford, Todd Cantwell to Leeds, Arsenal starlet set for loan… The transfers that could happen this week with Premier League-EFL window open until Friday

The transfer window closed for business on October 5 but deals can still be done between Premier League and EFL clubs up to 5pm this Friday.

While the majority of top-flight teams have wrapped up their business, some are still working to strengthen their squads.

Here are the players who could be on the move this week…

William Saliba, Said Benrahma and Jack Butland could be among the players on the move

Jack Butland

Liverpool may have recently signed Brazilian starlet Marcelo Pitaluga, 17, but it seems they’re on the lookout for another senior goalkeeper following Adrian’s nightmare display in their last outing – a 7-2 defeat at Aston Villa.

Alisson Becker is out for at least a month and the latest reports suggest Jurgen Klopp is keen on signing England international Butland, who is currently number two at Stoke.

If the deal goes through, the 27-year-old could make his debut in Liverpool’s next match.

That would be a baptism of fire for Butland – the Reds are away to Merseyside rivals Everton, who are currently top of the Premier League.

Said Benrahma

West Ham ramped up their interest in the Algerian late last week and are hopeful of closing out a deal in the next few days.

However, the latest reports suggest that Benrahma’s move to the London Stadium is OFF due to a dispute between the player and Brentford.

Benrahma – who cost the Championship club just £2.7m from Nice in 2018 – scored 17 goals in 43 league games last season to help Brentford almost earn promotion to the Premier League.

Crystal Palace have also eyed the 25-year-old. Are the Eagles back in the race for him?

Josh King

The Hammers are reportedly relaxed about not signing Benrahma because their confident of landing Bournemouth striker King.

Tottenham, Aston Villa and Newcastle were all rumoured to be in for him at points in the window, while Manchester United almost re-signed him back in January.

West Ham are now in for the Norwegian forward and have had a £13million bid rejected by Bournemouth.

They are weighing up whether to make a new move, but they could now face competition from Everton, who are also showing an interest.

Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti is keen to bring in another striker after allowing 20-year-old Moise Kean to join Paris Saint-Germain on loan.

William Saliba

While star man Benrahma is on his way out, Brentford could welcome a promising new player.

Arsenal centre-back Saliba spent last season on loan Saint-Etienne and has yet to play for the Gunners, even though they forked out £27m to sign him.

Mikel Arteta is keen for the 19-year-old to get more experience and the reports suggest the Bees are in talks to take Saliba on loan for the season.

Danny Welbeck

The striker is available for free after he and Watford agreed to have his contract terminated.

Welbeck boasts plenty of Premier League experience, having previously played for Manchester United, Arsenal and on loan at Sunderland when they were in the top flight.

His only flaw is he’s susceptible to injuries but would be a useful signing to any side that find scoring goals difficult to come by.

Troy Deeney

Watford could also let go of their club captain, who’s been linked with a move away ever since their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed last term.

Deeney loves Watford, he said as much to talkSPORT in August, so won’t push for a move but he would be a tempting prospect for any Premier League side.

He was rumoured to be joining Tottenham earlier in the window.

Joe Rodon

There were suggestions that Tottenham were going to beat West Ham to the signing of the Swansea centre-back before last week’s international transfer deadline but that never materialised.

The Wales international is a Swans player for now but it’s understood Rodon will have moved on by October 16.

Spurs seem to be favourites now, although Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers is also understood to be an admirer.

Todd Cantwell

Norwich were also relegated from the Premier League last season and will be bracing themselves for more departures, having already lost Ben Godfrey and Jamal Lewis.

Todd Cantwell was one of their star performers in 2019/20 and plenty of clubs were linked to him throughout the campaign, including Premier League champions Liverpool.

But a more realistic transfer could see the 22-year-old midfielder join Leeds, who are the biggest club to be linked with him most recently.

Max Aarons

Another Norwich player who could leave the Championship following their relegation from the top flight last season.

The right-back attracted plenty of interest from across Europe this summer, including from Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

There is a glut of talent at the right-back position for England at the moment and Aarons is another with huge potential.

David Brooks

The midfielder was impressive for Bournemouth when the Premier League returned in June but it was not enough to keep them up.

The 23-year-old has shown he can cut it in the top flight but it may need a sizeable bid to prise him away from the Cherries.

He joined the south coast club from Sheffield United in 2018 for a fee of £11.5million and there have been reports linking him with a move back to Bramall Lane.

Manchester United have also been linked but attackers is not where they need strengthening.

Jack Wilshere

Former Arsenal star Wilshere is on the lookout for a new club after agreeing to terminate his West Ham contract early.

The midfielder, 28, has been linked with a move to MLS and Scottish giants Rangers but as he’s currently unattached there’s no specific deadline any interested clubs have to sign him.

Speaking to talkSPORT last week, Wilshere admitted he favours a move to Spain or Italy, although he maintains he is ‘open to anything’.

“I think I want to try something different – I am leaning towards that,” he said. “Maybe LaLiga, Italy, something a little bit different that not many English players have done.

“At the same time, I am probably going to take a week or two to decide. I was in this position when I left Arsenal and if I have learnt anything from that, it is to take your time and make sure it is right for you.

“Not that I have regrets that I went to West Ham because in my head things would have turned out differently. But this time I am going to take my time and find something that suits me.

“I just want to be happy playing football again. When I first signed for West Ham and the first three games when I started, before I picked up a little injury, that was probably the last time I could tell you I was happy playing football.

“I want to go back on the pitch with a smile on my face and play 20-30 games a season where I am an important player for a team.”
