Ademola Lookman threw away a massive chance for Fulham to salvage a point as they were beaten by West Ham on Saturday evening.
Scott Parker’s side battled it out for 90 minutes at the London Stadium, only to fall behind in added time when Pavel Soucek scored with what most thought would be the last act of the game.
However, there was further late drama to come as the visitors were then awarded a penalty.
West Ham’s new signing Said Benrahma was brought on as a substitute to win the game, but almost lost it for his side as he conceded a spot kick with seconds to spare.
The decision was ultimately made with the help of VAR as the referee rewatched the incident on the pitch side monitor and decided to award the penalty.
Following Aleksandar Mitrovic’s recent failure to convert, Lookman stepped up to the plate.
The 23-year-old attempted an audacious Panenka penalty and initially looked to have sent Lukas Fabianski the wrong way.
However, Lookman’s chip did not have enough power on it and so the goalkeeper was able to recover his position and catch the ball before it crossed the line.
The result leaves Fulham in 17th place with just one win and one draw from their first eight games.
Meanwhile West Ham are up to 11th.
