Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder takes issue with officials for Chelsea’s third goal in defeat at Stamford Bridge

Chris Wilder was unhappy with the officiating in Sheffield United’s 4-1 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

The damaging result leaves the winless Blades at the bottom of the Premier League table after eight games.

Sheffield United took an early lead through David McGoldrick, but were undone by goals from Tammy Abraham, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Timo Werner.

Wilder is adamant Silva’s header, which put the hosts 3-1 up with 13 minutes to go, should not have counted due to Kurt Zouma blocking Enda Stevens, who was marking the Brazilian defender.

The 53-year-old also took issue with the decision to award Chelsea a free-kick, which led to the goal, as Max Lowe was adjudged to have fouled Reece James.

Wilder told Sky Sports: “There was a block that gets picked up in every game regarding VAR. Blocks in penalty areas, it was old school, a lot of people were doing it in the day and us included.

“When you get to the level of scrutiny that happens in the Premier League, you’d like to think people would see that obvious block because you’re not allowed to block now.

“There was an incident just before with Max Lowe. It’s a disappointing result for us and the manner of the goals are disappointing.

“The manner in which we turned the ball over, when we had decent possession, to world class players… they’re going to keep it away from you or they’re going to be unbelievable on the counter-attack and punish you.”
