The final four places at the rescheduled European Championship next summer were finally decided on Thursday evening.
Due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, Euro 2020 has been rearranged and will now kick off on June 11, 2021.
The delay meant the play-offs – originally due to take place in March – were also pushed back.
The Republic of Ireland saw their hopes ended at the semi-final stage, losing to Slovakia, while Scotland and Northern Ireland won their semi-finals to put themselves within one game of next summer’s tournament.
But only one of them made it through as Scotland won their play-off clash with Serbia in dramatic circumstances, conceding an equaliser in the final minute before going on to win a penalty shootout.
Northern Ireland, meanwhile, suffered heartbreak as they scored a late leveller before they were undone in extra-time to lose 2-1 to Slovakia.
Scotland go into the same group (D) as England, with Wales – who qualified automatically along with the Three Lions – in Group A alongside Turkey, Italy and Switzerland.
Hungary and North Macedonia also triumphed on Thursday night to book their spot at the Euros – joining the 20 who had already made it through and completing the group stage line up.
