Fulham penalty woes continue as Ivan Cavaleiro slips and skies his spot kick against Everton

Fulham have had a torrid time with penalty kicks this season as they missed another against Everton on Sunday.

Ademola Lookman was widely criticised for his attempted Panenka penalty in the final minute of their game with West Ham before the international break.

The effort floated into the arms of the Hammers goalkeeper to deny them a much needed point at the start of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

When Scott Parker’s side were awarded a spot-kick against Everton it was a different man to step up and take responsibility.

Ivan Cavaleiro took the ball in his hands and placed it on the spot but he won’t want to watch the replay after what happened next.

The forward slipped as he was about to take his shot and the ball ricocheted off both feet and skied over the crossbar.

Thankfully for Parker’s side, they got a goal a couple of minutes later to bring them back into the contest at Craven Cottage.

It was not enough to get them a point, though, with Fulham slipping to a 3-2 defeat and still looking for their second win of the season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin struck in the opening minute to put Everton ahead before the Bobby Decordova-Reid brought the teams level.

Calvert-Lewin grabbed his second of the afternoon in the 29th minute to put Everton back ahead.

A neat move saw Lucas Digne released down the left, after fine play by fellow wing-back Alex Iwobi, and the Frenchman picked out the Toffees number nine who slotted home.

It was an excellent goal, upheld after a VAR review into a possible offside against Calvert-Lewin, but further frustration for Fulham after they had enjoyed the better of proceedings following Decordova-Reid’s leveller.

Digne again proved impossible to deal with on the left as he had the time and space to pick out Abdoulaye Doucoure who headed in the 35th minute.

Fulham had chances in the second half to grab a point but failed to convert late on.
