Harry Kane will NOT leave Tottenham says Andy Cole, as Manchester United legend backs Spurs ace to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal record

Harry Kane is most definitely a contender to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal record having hit his 150th in the competition on Sunday.

Kane, the England captain, netted a late winner against West Brom to send Tottenham temporarily top of the table and hit the milestone goal in his career.

His 150th Premier League strike was also Kane’s 201st for Spurs in all competitions, having celebrated reaching his double century in midweek with a goal against Ludogorets Razgrad.

Kane’s goal moved him to joint-ninth on the Premier League’s all-time scoring charts, rising ahead of Les Ferdinand to level with Michael Owen.

He is still 110 goals behind Shearer’s remarkable 260 record, but at 27 he still has a good decades’ worth of football in him – as long as he avoids injuries which have somewhat plagued his career.

And Cole, who is himself 37 goals ahead of Kane on 187 Premier League strikes, believes breaking Shearer’s record is well within the Tottenham star’s grasp.

“His record speaks for itself,” said Cole on talkSPORT’s Sunday Session. “He’s got 150 in the Premier League now.

“And I can’t see him leaving the Premier League, so he’s got a good chance to end up, if he keeps going the way he is going, as the Premier League’s top scorer.”

While many share Cole’s view that Kane will remain in English football for his entire career, a transfer away from Spurs has long been rumoured.

Manchester United and Man City have both been linked with the England captain on numerous occasions, but Cole believes any chance of a White Hart Lane exit has been and gone – with Kane to now see out his career in north London.

“No, no, no,” replied Cole when asked if Kane will leave Tottenham. “I think he is done.

“I look at it this way: when I played for Newcastle, Kevin Keegan built the team around me so I could score as many goals as possible and hopefully we’d end up winning the game.

“Tottenham have built the team around Harry Kane, so where are you going to go? If he goes somewhere else the team isn’t built around you so it’s a new adventure and a little bit harder.”
