Jamie Vardy scores Leicester’s EIGHTH penalty of the season but misses their NINTH as Foxes edge past Wolves

Leicester were awarded their eighth AND ninth penalties of the season as they edged past Wolves 1-0 at the King Power Stadium.

But as the scoreline shows, it was a mixed afternoon for the taker of both spot-kicks, Jamie Vardy, who slotted home the first one but had his second saved by Rui Patricio.

The one Vardy scored it’s got to be said, is debateable at at the very least, as VAR took centre stage again.

Vardy has teammate Dennis Praet to thank for getting him the spot-kick as his attempted cross hit the arm of Max Kilman on the left side of the area.

The incident wasn’t initially given as a penalty but the Video Assistant Referee took the chance to review the footage.

Former Foxes striker Alan Smith was on co-commentary for Sky Sports and couldn’t believe the penalty was then given by referee Antony Taylor.

He said: “It much depends on where the arm is but you’re not going to get a penalty for that. He didn’t have any chance really to take it out of the way.

“I know it’s [his arm] just up off side a little bit but I’ve been amazed before.”

Vardy didn’t need another opportunity and with the ball spotted 12 yards from goal he, off a quick run up, slammed the ball into the right corner, with the Wolves stopper diving the other way.

It was Leicester’s eighth penalty of the campaign with SEVEN coming in the Premier League.

And he had another opportunity from the spot just before half-time when Rayan Ait-Nouri tripped James Justin in the box.

This one was a definite penalty but with the same run up Vardy put it slightly to the left and Patricio saved on this occasion, keeping the score at 1-0.

The visitors couldn’t make Vardy and Leicester pay in the second half, although Ruben Neves went mightily close to scoring an equaliser but his long-range effort was brilliantly turned away by Kasper Schmeichel.

Leicester had more chances after the break, going close through Vardy and substitute Harvey Barnes but one goal was all they needed in the end.

Earlier this season, Vardy netted two from the spot against Man City back in late September after hitting two against West Brom, and adding another against AEK Athens in the Europa League.

Meanwhile, Youri Tielemans netted one against City and another in their 4-1 win over Leeds last weekend.

It’s some record so far and they will hope the decisions continue to go their way.
