Marcelo Bielsa told he needs to adapt his tactics for different teams after Leeds’ ‘naive’ performance against Crystal Palace

Marcelo Bielsa’s tactics against Crystal Palace have been branded ‘naïve’ as Leeds were beaten 4-1 for the second successive match.

Bielsa has brought his high tempo style to the Premier League and caused the biggest teams some serious trouble, including Liverpool and Man City.

In their first match of the season Leeds lost 4-3 to Liverpool in a thrilling encounter at Anfield, while their 1-1 draw with Man City was also a memorable end-to-end clash back in October.

However, they have fallen somewhat out of form and lost their past two games – conceding eight goals in the process.

Saturday’s defeat to Palace resulted in Leeds slipping down to 15th in the table.

And former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor has criticised Bielsa’s tactics and said he needs to adapt his style to different opponents if he wants to pick up positive results.

Aston Villa hero Agbonlahor told talkSPORT: “It’s a bit naïve. Everyone knows what Crystal Palace are going to do.

“They are going to play on the counter attack. They’ve got great speed going forward.

“Bielsa has to change his tactics for different games. You can’t press every team and be so open. That’s what Leeds were; they were so open.

“He played three centre-halves who, for me, are not good enough in the Premier League and they need protection.

“If you leave them on their own against [Wilfried] Zaha, [Eberechi] Eze, and [Andros] Townsend, they are going to destroy you.

“You can’t concede four goals every game in the Premier League and try and beat teams 5-4.

“I think he needs to sit down and think to himself; some games he can play the way he wants to play with the attacking high press, but some games you have to change your tactics.

“It was just a bit of naivety from Bielsa.”

Leeds have won ten points from eight games this season and after the international break they take on Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea in a run of three tough matches.
