After the opening 38 top-flight games this term, there had been 144 goals – 40 more than at the same stage last season.

It means the battle for the top scorer is already taking shape with some stars nearing double figures for the campaign just a few weeks in.

Last season, Leicester’s superb Jamie Vardy netted 23 goals to edge out Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Danny Ings of Southampton to the top gong.

Meanwhile, Manchester City maestro Kevin De Bruyne provided the most assists with 20 and his team-mate Ederson won the Golden Glove by keeping 16 clean sheets.
