Romelu Lukaku scored a brace for Belgium to spare Thibaut Courtois’ blushes in a 4-2 victory over Denmark.
Roberto Martinez’s side will join Italy, France and Spain at next year’s UEFA Nations League finals after securing top spot in Group A2.
After another wonderful display against England on Sunday, former Chelsea and Manchester United striker Lukaku showed the world yet again just how talented he is in front of goal.
The first of his two goals was somewhat opportunistic, but the second was a classic centre-forward’s header which Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel had no chance of stopping.
Lukaku has scored 17 goals in his last 14 international appearances for the Red Devils, including five in five in this season’s competition.
Should he score three more times for his country, Lukaku will move onto 60 goals at international level. No other Belgium player has even reached 40!
Lukaku’s prolific form for his country should not come as a surprise; the 27-year-old also has seven goals in eight appearances for Inter Milan this season.
It was not all plain sailing for the No.1 ranked side in the world, however, with Real Madrid ace Courtois living every goalkeeper’s nightmare.
Former Spurs and West Brom midfielder Nacer Chadli sent a simple backpass towards the shot-stopper, who could only watch as the ball rolled under his right boot and into the back of the net.
Although it will go down as a Chadli own goal, the glovesman was truly to blame and he could only look on despondently at his inconsolable teammate.
