Tony Pulis ‘in advanced talks’ to take over at Sheffield Wednesday following Garry Monk axing

It’s understood the Owls had to work hard to convince Pulis this was the right move for him, who had reservations over taking the post.

Wednesday are now in advanced talks with Pulis and he could be appointed manager by this weekend.

talkSPORT also understands that a number of other managers reportedly in the running for the job, including Paul Cook, never even heard from the Championship side.

Wednesday chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, revealed that ‘many managers’ had applied for the vacant position.

Speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT, the Owls chairman said: “I want to do the best thing for the club, it’s an amazing club… We need time to think about it.

“I think (we need to hire somebody) as soon as possible. Actually there are many managers who have sent offers, so we need to look at it and see who is the best.

“Every manager is good and has good experience and ability, but I can choose just one. So I’ll try to choose the best I can choose at the moment.”
