Tottenham defender Joe Rodon to make full debut vs Chelsea with Hugo Lloris also a doubt after falling ill

Joe Rodon will make his full Tottenham debut this afternoon, being thrown in at the deep end against Chelsea.

According to reports, the 23-year-old defender will replace Toby Alderweireld at centre-half against the Blues following the Belgium international’s injury blow.

Alderweireld faces up to a month out, and the Standard claim Rodon has been selected ahead of Davinson Sanchez to fill his void against Frank Lampard’s side.

Rodon, the Wales international, joined Spurs last month for around £11million and has so far played twice in the top-flight – appearing both times as a substitute.

He is highly-rated and Tottenham beat a host of their Premier League rivals to secure Rodon’s signature – allegedly with the help of his Wales teammate Gareth Bale.

Jose Mourinho has other injury worries heading into the Stamford Bridge clash, also.

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris faces a late fitness test having been taken ill earlier this week, which if he fails will see summer signing Joe Hart make his Premier League debut for the north Londoners.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have some good news on the injury front.

Christian Pulisic, who has missed each of the past five matches, is back in contention to play against Spurs, further strengthening an already very fit squad.
