Roy Keane furious at Manchester United and Man City players hugging, Gary Neville blasts ‘no intent’ of BOTH sides in derby bore draw

Manchester United responded to their midweek Champions League exit by restricting Manchester City to a goalless draw.

However, Red Devils legends Roy Keane and Gary Neville were left fuming after the mundane match at Old Trafford came to a close.

In fairness to them, they were angry at both sides in equal measure, suggesting neither United nor City had any ambitions to win the match.

Former United captain Keane kicked off the condemnation of both sides not trying to win and also couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw opposition players hugging each other and smiling as the final whistle went.

Keane, speaking on Sky Sports said: “You’ve got to gamble a little bit. You’ve got to try and win a game of football.

“You don’t settle for draws. I’m listening to John Stones talking about a clean sheet and blah blah blah. You’ve got to go and win football matches!

“People say there’s a long way to go in the season, but when the game is there for you…

“I never felt Man City were going to score many goals. Go and find a way to win the game of football.

“At the end of the game the staff and players are hugging, smiling, chatting with each other. Just get down the tunnel, I don’t get it! Everyone wants to be pals with each other, and be popular!

“You’re playing for these clubs, particularly Man United, to win football matches! Not to be mates with everybody!”

“Really poor. With the quality they have at the end of the game, two bookings.

“Two bookings in a derby game. I’ve never seen so many hugs and chats after the game. It’s a derby game!

“But the lack of quality and end product from both teams was really disappointing.”

Neville wasn’t too upset about the hugging after the match but was similarly as furious as his former teammate with a lack of desire from both sides, especially the more creative Man City.

He said: “There was no intent there. Whether on the pitch or from the managers to win the match.

“That was really poor, and we shouldn’t accept that. We can say both teams played in midweek, there’s no fans, but we’ve put a lot of emphasis on the speed, thrill, risk to win in the Premier League.

“There’s nothing in that game that tells me any of those things existed today.

“I’m really surprised at City, they look like a team that’s bored a little bit. And they have no option but to win the league, that’s it. It just wasn’t Man City, it wasn’t Pep Guardiola, in and out of possession.”
