Roy Keane hilariously rips Gary Neville to shreds when talking about squad rotation at Manchester United

Roy Keane really is quite extraordinary – one moment he’ll be his typically glum self, the next he’ll be cracking a joke like the happy-go-lucky chap he rarely is in public.

His jokes do tend to be at somebody’s expense and on Saturday it was former teammate at Manchester United Gary Neville who was in the firing line.

The Irishman cut a despondent figure earlier on as he analysed United’s dull draw at home to Manchester City.

Keane, along with fellow Sky Sports pundit Neville, laid into the lack of application shown by both sides – Keane taking particular offence at seeing some players from opposing sides hugging each other as the final whistle went.

Keane was also critical of the United players, suggesting manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is unable to trust them to consistently produce good performances.

He said: “If you want to play for a big club and win trophies, obviously the key for any manager is to be consistent, that’s why you’re at a big club.

“But if you’re turning up every week and thinking ‘I’m not sure what I’m going to get from these players’ then there are tough days ahead.

“If we had a private chat with Ole he’d be saying exactly the same. He’d say ‘I really can’t trust this group of players’, that’s why he’s chopping and changing all the time. If he trusted them he’d go for the same eleven.

“I always say when you’re at a big club the players pick the team. You train all week and the manager thinks ‘I have to pick him.'”

Keane cheekily referenced to Neville being subjected to squad rotation tactics by Sir Alex Ferguson, prompting his former teammate to insist he was a stalwart at right-back.

To which Keane brilliantly replied: “The only right-back we had at the club!” Watch the hilarious clip below.
