Roy Keane says Manchester United should ‘fancy their chances’ in challenging Liverpool for Premier League title after Leeds thrashing

Roy Keane insists Manchester United can push Liverpool for the Premier League title this season.

The Red Devils climbed to third in the table as they extended their unbeaten league run to seven matches with a 6-2 win over Leeds on Sunday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will move to within just two points of leaders Liverpool if they win their game in hand.

The Reds are in a rich vein of form, too, as they hit SEVEN goals past Crystal Palace on Saturday, however, United legend Keane is backing his former club to challenge their rivals for top spot.

He told Sky Sports: “Over the last two months they [Manchester United] have been heavily criticised, particularly for the home record and the huge disappointment in Europe a few weeks ago.

“I’ve been quite critical of the back four and the goalkeeper and questioned where this team is going, but the name of this game is proving people wrong.

“Maybe this group of players can do that. They’ve won their last few games and that’s all you can do.

“I’m intrigued when people say they’re not worried about the league table, well you should be because that’s what the game is about.

“You try to get points, you want to look. People say, ‘you don’t look until the end of the season’. No.

“United are in a great position considering how slow they were out of the blocks.

“Can you imagine if they sort their home record out? Their away form is brilliant. We’ve talked about United on the counter-attack, outstanding.

“If they can get their house in order at home then there’s no reason why United can’t certainly stay up there.

“I still think Liverpool are the best out there, but United should be fancying their chances in terms of pushing Liverpool.”
