Ever since Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United to join Real Madrid in 2009, it’s no secret that the club’s iconic no.7 shirt has proven too much for some to do justice.
George Best, David Beckham, Eric Cantona and Ronaldo all wore the shirt with pride, but Memphis Depay and Alexis Sanchez struggled to find form during their respective stints at Old Trafford.

Edinson Cavani was tasked with the job of dismissing the ‘curse’ that has been hanging over United since Ronaldo left.
And to his credit, the former Paris Saint-Germain frontman has done a pretty job of ending it once and for all so far.
While the 33-year-old is yet to get off the mark at Old Trafford, he has already made some telling contributions on the road this season.
His first Premier League goal came against Everton in a 3-1 success back in November, before coming off the bench to score a brilliant double in a dramatic 3-2 victory at Southampton later that month.

Cavani scored his second goal in as many outings against the Toffees in a 2-0 Carabao Cup quarter-final win before Christmas.
Most recently the Uruguay forward, who considered retirement after leaving the Parc des Princes at the end of last season, found the net as United maintained their impressive form by beating struggling Fulham on Wednesday night.
Cavani has a goal ratio of one strike every three games (four goals in 12 appearances), and looking at the below stats you can see how much of an improvement he has been on his predecessors who held the No.7 shirt – by some distance!
