Andre Villas-Boas offers to RESIGN as Marseille boss after French club sign Celtic star Olivier Ntcham, who he ‘specifically said no to’

There’s more chaos at Marseille with Andre Villas-Boas offering his resignation as head coach.

Villas-Boas, who was reportedly begged by players to stay last summer, says he wants to leave after the club defied his requests NOT to sign Celtic star Olivier Ntcham.

Ntcham arrived at the French side on loan from the Hoops with an option to buy on transfer deadline day.

The 24-year-old is a replacement for Morgan Sanson, who joined Aston Villa for £16million in January.

This hasn’t sat well with Villas-Boas, who revealed he only heard about the transfer when seeing news of it online.

The former Chelsea and Tottenham boss said: “This is a decision not made by me.

“He’s a player I specifically said no to. I learned about it when I woke up and went on the number one Olympique Marseille website.

“I submitted my resignation, saying that I didn’t agree with the sporting policy.

“Management didn’t give me final say on things. I don’t want money, I just want to go.

“The club has been through two or three years of just doing anything on transfers and I don’t want to accept that.

“Now I am focused on Lens [on Wednesday]. For me they are the team of the year.

“Our preparation won’t be ideal but we’ll just keep going until the management tells me to leave.”

It’s been a turbulent season for Marseille, who are ninth in the French top flight. They also finished bottom of their Champions League group, with Villas-Boas claiming the team is ‘s***’.

their match last weekend having to be postponed following an attack on the club’s training ground by Marseille ultras but the Portuguese insists those those unsavoury scenes have nothing to do with his wish to leave.

He added: “It has nothing to do with the weekend incidents, it’s to do with the sporting side of things. Even the departure of Nemanja (Radonjic) I was only informed about in the evening.

“I’m waiting for a response from the management and if it’s a no (to the resignation) then we continue. I repeat, I don’t want any money I just want to leave. I want to be clear with you.

“I have an emotional connection with France, with Provence, with Saint-Victoire. I love OM but when you give me someone whose characteristics are nothing like the one who left…

“I have a lot of respect for Jacques-Henri (Eyraud, Marseille president) who is sorting out the TV rights problem. But this is a matter of my professionalism.”

Regardless of whether Villas-Boas is his manager, Ntcham will have a huge task on his hands to win over the Marseille fans.

The Frenchman has previously admitted to supporting Marseille’s rivals Paris Saint-Germain.

He said: “I am a supporter of Paris Saint-Germain and I have always been.

“They are a team that I follow regularly, I try to watch all the matches, I support them. When they score, it does something to me.”
